Peter Smith

With heavy hearts caods recently said goodbye to our beloved friend Peter Smith. Peter joined the Society in 1948 as a dancer before moving onto minor and later leading roles. Peter was one of the founding members of our junior society – Chelmsford Young Generation – in 1968. So many performers (young and not so young) owe to much to Peter for providing them somewhere to perform and shine. As well as performing, Peter was always artistic and many props, scenery and costumes were created by him for both Societies. He was truly an artist and many shows would have that little sparkle missing without him. Peter will be dearly missed by everyone in the Society and in the wider community of Chelmsford. Peter was a true gentleman and we know his influence and commitment to both Societies will be missed. Please find below some items from Peter Smith’s memory box. If you have any memories to share of Peter then please do not hesitate to contact us. CAODS 90th Anniversary

In 2010 caods celebrated their 90th Anniversary and we certainly have come a long way since our inception in 1920. caods first production, “H.M.S. Pinafore”, was staged at the Empire Theatre (long since demolished) in Springfield Road and was a great success receiving ecstatic reviews from the local press. Following that first production, the Society went on to stage musicals annually, the event soon becoming one of the highlights of the social calendar. Click on our History page to find out more about our 90 year journey. Now we perform two musicals annually at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford and are still receiving amazing reviews for our shows. In our anniversary year we performed “Fiddler On The Roof” and “Beauty and the Beast” to great acclaim – more details available on our Past Shows page. We also organised a 90th Anniversary Concert – “Be Our Guest” – which, in traditional caods fashion, was a show not to miss. As well as our public events we held a Family Fun Day and an Anniversary Dinner at Hylands House for members from across the years. Fun was had by all and we are looking forward to our 100th anniversary in 2020! 90th Anniversary Article in Essex Life “Be Our Guest” 90th Anniversary Concert review and article 90th Anniversary Dinner Invitation 90th Anniversary Family Fun Day Invitation and Guest List  ...
