caods are delighted to return to the Civic Theatre to present Lerner and Loewe’s multi-award winning musical, ‘My Fair Lady’. This classic musical quickly became one of the greatest successes of the New York and London stages, and paved the way for the hugely popular film in 1964 staring Audrey Hepburn.

Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, ‘My Fair Lady’ is that rare musical by which all others are measured. The tale of a cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, transformed into an elegant lady by Professor Henry Higgins and the subsequent unexpected effect that she has on his life. It features one of musical theatre’s greatest scores, including ‘’Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?”, “With a Little Bit of Luck”, “The Rain in Spain”, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “On the Street Where You Live”, “Get Me to the Church on Time” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face”.

Auditions – Saturday 20 October

Auditions will be held on Saturday 20th October 2018 @ the HQ from 10am onwards. As usual, once we have the audition forms in, we will be able to give a rough idea of the timings for the rest of the day, but ensemble auditions are not normally before 1pm at the earliest. Principal auditions will start at 10am sharp. Please get in touch ASAP if you have any issues with timings on the audition day.
The Audition Panel will consist of Ray Jeffery (Director), Bryan Cass (Musical Director) and Kieran Bacon (Production Assistant). Chairman of the Audition Panel is Cassie Estall (CAODS Committee, no vote).
Lib Hire
Libs will be available to hire at the Pre-Audition Calls at a cost of £25 from Jean Pinkney. Cash or cheque (made payable to CAODS) are both fine. Please note: If you decide not to continue with the show post-auditions, refunds for lib hire will only be given if they are returned within 2 weeks of the audition date.
Fees
In order to audition you must at least be a Non-Acting Member (membership £15) and you will need to have paid your Show Fee – which for ‘My Fair Lady’ has been agreed at £40 – to be paid in advance of the auditions. Again cash or cheque (made payable to CAODS) is fine. Jean Pinkney will be collecting show fees. Please remember that you will need to increase your membership to Acting Member, if not already, (total £40) if you are cast in the show. Please note – as per the new rule agreed at the last AGM, Show Fees will only be returned to anyone not continuing with the show within 2 weeks post-auditions. Show fees will not be refunded after that date.
Audition Pieces
Dance & Ensemble auditions – There will be a Dancers audition (dance) and an Ensemble movement audition. If you are auditioning as a Dancer or Ensemble only, but not a principal role, you will need to sing the audition vocal for the ‘Ensemble’. If you are also auditioning for a part that has a separate vocal, there is no need to also do the Ensemble vocal. Everyone must do a vocal and one of the movement auditions.
Rehearsal Schedule
Please also note that, as always, there may be some slight variations and flexibility required around the schedule so, if need be, please be prepared for some amendments. Please note the Publicity Day on Saturday 9 February. As yet, the Preview Day has not yet been arranged. Stand-ins will be required if you are unable to attend a setting call.
