Cabaret
20 – 25 September 1993, Civic Theatre Chelmsford
Kander & Ebb’s timeless musical starts in 1931 and follows the Nazi rise to power in Berlin. The Kit Kat Club, presided over by the Master of Ceremonies, is the backdrop for where English cabaret performer, Sally, and American writer, Cliff, meet and begin an affair. Meanwhile in Cliff’s boarding house his German landlady is in love with the Jewish fruit vendor but their love is forbidden. The club serves for an ominous metaphor for the political developments in the late Weimar Germany.
