When Irene opened on Broadway in 1919 it managed to hold the record as the longest-running musical in Broadway for almost two decades. It has resulted in various revivals and two film versions. Irish immigrant Irene O’Dare runs a music store with her widowed mother. When she is sent to tune a piano for a young tycoon they both fall for each other. However, the class divide stands in their way, as well their overbearing mothers!
