Stephen Sondheim’s musical thriller hits the Civic Theatre with plenty of gore and blood. When the mysterious Sweeney Todd returns to London he makes his way to his old home where he is told how his beautiful wife committed suicide after being assulted by evil Judge Turpin and that his daughter Johanna is now his ward. With Mrs Lovett, who makes the “Worst Pies in London”, Todd swears revenge on those who destroyed his life and begins to enjoy the blood lust his expert “barbering” brings about. With Mrs Lovett finding the perfect way to dispose of the bodies and sell the best pies in London it seems the reign of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street will never end.
